Iodex is a black, gooey salve that my mother used to cure almost all children injuries. Primarily she used it as a drawing salve. If you had a splinter and you wouldn't let your mother get it out she would take out the iodex, apply it in generous quantity and then bandaged it. Let it cook for a day or two, unwrap and low and behold the splinter usually popped through the skin to be easily removed. AMAZING! It became the magic medicine and was then used on any cut or scrape and left to perform it's miracles. You can still buy it today but you have to ask the pharmacist for it (if they are any good they will know what you are talking about)
